Report: Sedin twins make announcement on their NHL future
Keystone Press

There’s no denying the impact that Daniel and Henrik Sedin have had on the Vancouver Canucks and the city of Vancouver. The franchise’s two all-time scoring leaders have been mainstays on the ice in Vancouver for nearly 20 years, but at 37-years of age and with their contracts expiring this summer, what does the future hold for the Sedin twins? Retirement? Trade? Contract extension?

On CBC’s Saturday Headlines segment last night, senior Sportsnet writer and NHL insider Chris Johnston reported that both Daniel and Henrik would like to return for at least one more season.

Interesting. While the Sedins may not put up points like they used to, they’re still capable NHL players. Henrik has 32 points in 46 games this season, Daniel with 30 in 45. Not bad. Not top line quality, but the Canucks rely more on Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser for top-line production these days, anyways.

With two young Swedish prospects in Jonathan Dahlen and Elias Pettersen expected to crack the Canucks’ roster next season, could the Sedins play a role in helping shepherd them along? After all, who better to help a young Swedish player navigate their way through their rookie NHL campaign than Daniel and Henrik Sedin?
