Report: Seems unlikely the NHL will be back before February

A report from TSN's Pierre LeBrun pours cold water on some hot rumours.

While NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly maintains that the league's target date of January 1st is still its "main objective", TSN's Pierre LeBrun reports that the league's schedule is more likely to begin in February.

From LeBrun's most recent column for TSN:

In lieu of the NBA news, the latest on NHL: Bill Daly says Jan. 1 puck drop ``remains our objective.'' But the joint NHL-NHLPA RTP committee has yet to meet (nothing yet scheduled). Though a source says top leaders of NHLPA/NHL have been in daily contact over the 2020-21 season.

However, the joint NHL-NHLPA Return to Play committee has yet to meet and have nothing scheduled at this time. LeBrun reports that the top leaders on both sides have been in daily contact regarding the 2020-21 season.

Remember when the NHL said its main objective was ensuring a full 82 game schedule for the 2020-21 season? That also seems unlikely at this point. Remember when the NHL said it was going to open training camps in November? Well.... don't look now but it's November 10th and there's absolutely NOTHING on the NHL's schedule. At this point, I'm not going to hold my breath in hoping for an announcement from the NHL anytime soon.
