Report: Senators might still stage alumni game on The Hill

They may do it, even without the Habs

The Ottawa Senators are still hoping and working hard to have at least a portion of the outdoor game weekend staged on Parliament Hill.

Back in November, the NHL club was told it was not feasible to stage the December 16 game against the Montreal Canadiens on a temporary ice surface on the front lawn of The Hill. But now Ian Mendes of TSN Radio 1200 has been told that the Sens are now trying to stage an alumni game at that location.

After their original idea was nixed when the federal government cited logistical and security concerns as the main obstacles to hosting the game on the Hill, the Sens turned to the TD Place. But now they hope to convince government officials to allow a smaller-sized event to take place at Parliament Hill at some point before the outdoor game at TD Place.

To make it a smaller event, the report hints that the Canadiens alumni would not be included. The Senators may opt to stage their own 3-on-3 tournament made up exclusively of former Ottawa players instead.

The Sens will look to convince the officials and stay a breathtaking event on the Hill - with out without the Habs. Stay tuned.
