No doubt it’s been a season to forget for the Ottawa Senators. Not only has the team seen franchise players like Erik Karlsson, Matt Duchene and Mark Stone leave the team, but they also dead last in the NHL’s standings. Oh… and they don’t even have their own first round pick, as they shipped it to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for the now departed Duchene in an ill-fated trade last season.

So, their players have left, they’re dead last and they don’t even have a top pick… what else can go wrong? Well… surprise, surprise… it turns out a lot more can go wrong.

Ask any Sens fan who they’re most fearful of GM Pierre Dorion signing to an long-term overpriced contract and you’ll receive the same answer again and again: Cody Ceci. Well… surprise… it appears as if that’s exactly the case.

During today’s locker room clear out, Ceci, a pending RFA, spoke to reporters and broke the news that he’s had concrete discussions with Dorion about a long-term deal.

Check it out:

The 25 year old Ceci had seven goals and 26 points in 74 games with the Sens this season on a one year, $4.3 million deal. Sens fans must be shaking in their boots at the prospect of a long-term deal in the $5+ million range.
