Flash back to the spring of 2015 and you may recall the incredible run the Ottawa Senators put together to make the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, buoyed mostly by the play of goaltender Andrew Hammond, better known as The Hamburglar. Hammond went 20-1-2 over a 24 game stretch and almost single handedly willed his team into the post season. Flash forward three seasons and Hammond is out of the NHL entirely, toiling in the AHL with the Iowa Wild, AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild.

Now, word is trickling out about the way in which Hammond’s time with the Sens organization ended and… surprise, surprise the Senators and owner Eugene Melnyk do NOT end up looking good.

In a now deleted Tweet from Hammond’s wife Marlee Hammond, the veteran goaltender’s wife alleges that team did not provide proper medical care for Hammond’s injured knee during his time with the club. Again, the source has now deleted her allegations, but you can check out the fallout below:

Tweet alleging Sens denied her husband proper medical care has now been taken down by Marlee Hammond

This is a rather serious allegation from the wife of former Sens goalie Andrew Hammond

Are you saying the Sens or their medical staff intentionally denied or delayed a hip surgery they knew Andrew needed?

If this is true, the Sens and Melnyk could find themselves in a LOT of hot water, as civil judges in Canada tend to take these matters pretty seriously.

In the meantime, the 30 year old Hammond continues to bide his time in the minors in the hopes of one day making it back to the NHL. He did make three postseason appearances for the Colorado Avalanche in last spring’s 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but was since left unsigned by the team.
