The ball is in Brian Gionta's court. The 38-year-old veteran reportedly has several options to choose from, if he decides to lace up the skates for another season in the NHL.

"Gio has not made any final decision on his future," his agent, Steve Bartlett, answered in an email to John Vogl of the Buffalo News. "We have had a number of teams that have indicated they would sign him, but he is not sure right now which if any offer he would accept.

"He will continue to prepare as though he will play, and we will see how things play out here over the next couple weeks."

The former Sabres captain recorded registered 15 goals and 35 assists in 82 game last season. He would have like to return as part of the Sabres' roster, but his spot was taken by Jason Pominville, who was acquired during the offseason.

Gionta has not only served as captain for the Sabres, but also for the Montreal Canadiens, for the past seven campaigns, and could provide experience and leadership in a locker room.

The veteran winger might also choose to represent the United States at the 2018 Olympics... He gets to pick.
