The New York Rangers have officially released veteran Andrew Desjardins from his professional tryout (PTO) contract.

The 31-year-old forward played the last three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, winning a Stanley Cup with the franchise in 2015. In 46 games with the Hawks in 2016-17, Desjardins registered just a single assist and 22 penalty minutes.

The veteran of 408 career NHL games now hits the open market as an unrestricted free-agent, but with most teams having already sorted out their rosters, Desjardins may be left out in the cold. Is this the end for the gritty veteran?
