The Dallas Stars, and more specifically general manager Jim Nill, informed Sportsnet hockey insider Elliotte Friedman that the organization will not buy out the contract of much-maligned goaltender Kari Lehtonen.

Lehtonen was not good for Dallas in the regular season, and when it counted most, in the playoffs, he was even worse and was the focus of much of the blame after the Stars 6-1 loss in Game 7 of the second round to the St. Louis Blues.

With nearly $6 million dollars of cap hit for the next two seasons, most fans and pundits alike expected the buyout to be a no-brainer, and the move would also allow the Stars to potentially acquire a quality goaltender during the offseason. There is still the possibility of a trade for Dallas, but with his current cap hit Lehtonen does not appear like much of an asset at all.
