Report: Teams demanding a very high price to take on Datsyuk contract from Wings.
Keystone Press.

The Detroit Red Wings want to free up the cap space currently occupied by the contract of veteran forward Pavel Datsyuk, but it sounds like the price of doing business is going to be a painful one on that front.

According to a report from Red Wings insider Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press Ken Holland has spoken to some teams, but the general consensus among them appears to be that it will require Detroit giving up one of their top prospects to get it done.

Holland has "talked to a few teams" about the situation, but early demands have focused on 2015 first-round pick Evgeny Svechnikov and Andreas Athanasio...

It's a steep price, and one that Holland will have to pay if, as rumors suggest, he intends to take a run at signing star forward Steven Stamkos as a free agent this summer.
