Report: Tension in Edmonton after trade comes back to haunt Oilers
Twitter

The Edmonton Oilers are not having the start to the 2017-18 season every fan expected. After a crowd-pleasing playoff run last spring, and interesting moves throughout the offseason, fans and experts expect more. A lot more.

According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, tension has risen in Edmonton following one trade that has apparently come back to hunt the Oilers. Fans are unhappy with the Jordan Eberle trade, that sent the fan favourite player to the New York Islanders in return for Ryan Strome

Strome has yet to fill expectations with the Oilers, and now the major move is getting public rebuke. In 22 games in Edmonton this season so far, Strome has recorded three goals and 10 points.

In New York, Eberle has amassed seven goals and 14 points in 21 games.

Fans miss the energy and offensive boost Eberle brought to the Oilers. Fortunately for Edmonton, they won 6-2 against the Detroit Red Wings last night, which could make the fans forget a little bit how much the major trade looks like a bad choice from GM Peter Chiarelli.
