One of the most important lessons one can learn in life is to learn from one's mistakes. However according to recent reports it appears the Boston Bruins may not have learned that lesson or at the very least aren't applying it.
After firing their extremely successful GM
Peter Chiarelli the Bruins have interviewed for the GM position and the most recent candidate is a shocking one, former Washington Capitals GM
George McPhee.
Many believe that the nail in
Chiarelli's proverbial coffin was a series of bad trades that will likely haunt Boston fans and their team for many years to come. The two notable trades are those involving
Tyler Seguin and
Johnny Boychuk.
One could make the argument that those two trades alone warrant a general manager losing his job but what that doesn't justify is the hiring of one of the worst general managers in recent history.
McPhee was not well regarded in his time in Washington, in fact many believe that he made a last ditch effort to save his job by forcing a big time trade of his own, one that may go down as one of the worst trades in NHL history.
McPhee traded away one of the best young talents in the game today,
Filip Forsberg, in exchange for
Martin Erat and
Michael Latta in what is likely the worst trade of the decade, yes even worse than the
Tyler Seguin deal.
Hopefully this was simply Boston doing it's due diligence and not a serious interview for a GM position, because if it was Bruins fans need to be very worried about the direction of their club.
