The Minnesota Wild could reach an important milestone tonight

With a win tonight in their content against the Arizona Coyotes, the Minnesota Wild can establish new franchise season records in both wins and points. With 48 wins and 103 points currently, a notch in each category would earn this version of the Wild the distinction of being the best regular season team in the franchise’s history.

It’s an ironic twist given that the Wild had the Central Division championship firmly in their grasp before collapsing in March and conceding it the to the Chicago Blackhawks. However, after going 4-10-2 in March, the Wild have rebounded and are currently riding a three game winning streak as they take on the Coyotes from the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

The game also marks the return of Wild forward Martin Hanzal to Arizona after being dealt from the Coyotes at the NHL trade deadline. Hanzal spent nearly 10 seasons with the Coyotes and put up 313 points in 608 career games with the team. While he struggled to produce early on when first arriving in Minnesota, he’s found his groove lately and has 3 points in his last 5 games, good enough for 12 points total in his 19 games so far for the Wild. He’ll look to improve that number tonight against his old team and add to his new team’s historic season.
