After weeks of non-stop speculation, things have grown quiet of late concerning Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene getting traded.

Some may think it could be the calm before the storm, but most NHL clubs are not willing to meet GM Joe Sakic’s asking price.

In a recent Q&A with his readers, Denver Post’s Mike Chambers said Duchene will open the season with the Avs, and was quite frank with the forward.

"Duchene changing his mind on whether he wants to play for this team or not isn’t up to him. If he wants to play in the NHL right now, this is his only option," Chamber answers.

He does not believe Duchene will treat his teammates differently so fans should not worry about chemistry on the ice.

"Chemistry can’t be great with Duchene’s deal, but he’s not the kind of guy to act out … meaning he’s not going to treat his teammates poorly. He’s not mad at them. He’s mad at the GM and his staff."

The Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators were reported to be teams having interest in acquiring Duchene in the past weeks.

So until the Avalanche seeks a more reasonable return, he’s not going anywhere.
