Boston Bruins forward Tim Schaller scored his first two goals of the season during his team road trip last week, but yesterday he played a game that fits perfectly the style of play Bruins fans were used to see over the last few years. Schaller registered four hits (a team high) and he dropped the gloves against Vancouver Canucks Erik Gudbranson, after the Canadian defenseman delivered a dangerous hit on Frank Vatrano.

The Bruins ended up scoring three goals during the five minutes boarding penalty Gudbranson received, while Schaller was on the penalty box serving his five minute fighting major penalty. As a bottom six forward, he knows that he’ll have to play this way all season long to keep his place in the Bruins lineup.

If he plays like he did yesterday against the Canucks, he doesn’t need to worry about losing his spot in Bruce Cassidy’s lineup.

Schaller, 26, was signed as a free agent by the Bruins in 2016, after he played two seasons in the Buffalo Sabres organisation. He spent four seasons with Providence College. In 100 NHL games, he scored 11 goals and registered 21 points.
