Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green has been identified as one of the top trade baits ahead of this year trade deadline. The 32-year old defenseman, who has currently 26 points in 48 games played so far this season, is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. The Red Wings are currently fourth in the Atlantic division with a record of 19-21-8, and will certainly want to trade away their best assets for prospects and draft picks before the trade deadline. General manager Ken Holland would have to move Green before the trade deadline if he does not want to lose him for nothing this summer.

However, Green commented his situation ahead of the All-Star game, saying that he has not had contract extension talks with the Red Wings.

«I don’t worry too much about the exact extension or what’s going on in that sense. I just focus on day to day.

I’m happy in Detroit. I enjoy it. It’s an incredible organization. Things are good.» -Mike Green

The fact that he didn't have discussed contract extension with his team is a really good indicator that Green will be traded before the trade deadline, but we don't know for sure that this will happen. He is an experienced right handed defenseman playing almost 23 minutes each night, so teams that are looking to improve their blue line will certainly come after him really soon.

Drafted 29th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2004, Green joined the Red Wings as a free agent in 2015. In 769 games played in the NHL so far, he scored 139 goals and 318 assists for a total of 457 points. He also added 37 points in 76 playoff games.

Where do you think he will end up at the trade deadline? Or will he be traded at all?
