Report: Top prospect denies signing a deal in KHL

Minnesota Wild top prospect Kirill Kaprizov may be headed to North America sooner rather than later. KHL insider Aivins Kalnins reports that the rumors of Kaprizov signing an extension with Ufa Salavat Yulayev are false and that the 20-year-old forward could join the Wild as early as next season.

The Wild’s 5th round draft choice in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft scored 20 goals and 42 points in 49 games last season, but most hockey fans remember him for his record setting World Junior Championship tournament last winter. The winger scored nine goals for Russia during the competition, the most by a Russian-born player since Pavel Bure scored 12 in the 1991 tournament.

With the Wild facing a potential turnover in their top six in the next few seasons, they’d be smart to get an intriguing young talent like Kaprizov in the lineup as soon as possible.
