In a surprise move, not unlike what Kevin Hayes and Justin Schultz did with their drafting teams, another highly touted prospect has declined to sign with the team who drafted him. University of Michigan senior and Hobey Baker finalist Zach Hyman, has informed the Florida Panthers he will not be signing an entry-level deal with the club. The decision will allow Hyman to become an unrestricted free agent on Aug. 16, though the Panthers will probably trade their rights to him before then. It is a disappointing situation for the Panthers, who are missing out on a promising young player. Hyman led the Wolverines in scoring this year, with 54 points in 37 games, and finished as a Hobey Baker finalist. It is similar to what Kevin Hayes and Justin Schultz did when entering the NHL. Hayes and Schultz drafting teams (Chicago and Anaheim) were snubbed when both players waited for the mid-August deadline to pass, then became UFAs and signed elsewhere (with the Rangers and Oilers, respectively.) Where should Hyman end up?
