Ottawa Senators forward Kyle Turris isn’t paying attention to the reports that he could be traded if he’s not signed to a contract extension before the NHL trade deadline.

The forward also confirmed with the Ottawa Sun that he did not ask to be shipped out of the nations’ capital.

"I haven't. I'm not going to get into talks because that's between my agent (Kurt Overhardt) and (GM) Pierre Dorion. I'm focused on playing hockey."

It has been reported that negotiations between the two sides haven't gone well because neither side can get past the term hurdle. The Sens likely don't want to go more than five or six years on an extension while Turris is seeking a seven-year deal, which he believes he will get on the free market.

But for now, focus is on the ice.

"My focus is on helping the Ottawa Senators win games. That's where it's at every day," said Turris. "Like I said, I come to the rink and I have fun and I play hockey. I'm lucky to do that."

Turris not only wants to win games with his teammates, but also understands that he is not worried about being in the last year of his contract.

"It's business, right? I understand how things work. It's part of it," Turris said. "There's some that get done right away and some that take a long time and some that don't. It's just the way the business works. All I can do is enjoy what I do and play hockey."
