Report: Turris offer is on the table
Keystone Press

According to a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger, the Ottawa Senators have extended a contract offer to pending unrestricted free-agent Kyle Turris worth $36 million. But evidently, that’s not enough to get Turris to sign on the dotted line.

While talking on Vancouver’s TSN 1040 radio station Dreger said:

“I think that there’s a want and there’s a will from the club perspective to continue to negotiate, but the word on the street is that there may have been an offer presented at five years and $6 million per. And I’m told it’s less about the money and more about the term. And Turris wants seven or eight years.”

If that’s the case and the Sens aren’t willing to pony up the dollars or term to meet Turris’ demands, look for him to hit the trade market in advance of this year’s deadline.

The 28-year-old center has two goals and seven points in just six games for the Sens this season. In 2016-17 he emerged as the team’s top line center, putting up a career high 27 goals and 55 points in 78 games. If he does indeed hit the open market, look for several teams to make a strong pitch for the former 3rd overall draft pick.
