Report: Two Canadian teams linked in serious trade rumor

This hasn't been a dominant season for a handful of Canadian teams - much to the contrary of what was expected out of teams like the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators

The Oilers are dealing with an injury to Cam Talbot - and while he'll be back in not too long, the goalie depth has been exposed as Laurent Brossoit has been generally shaky as the backup.

It has been confirmed by the likes of Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman that Peter Chiarelli is in the market for a goalie, and one of the most persistent rumors out there right now is that he may be looking at acquiring goalie Michael Hutchinson from the Winnipeg Jets.

The aforementioned goaltender has been supplanted by Connor Hellebuyck and Steve Mason in the Jets' depth chart, and with a sparkling 9-1-1 record and .947 save percentage in the AHL, the 27-year-old may find himself back in the NHL very soon, but on a new team.

“(There’s) a lot of interest, in terms of what Michael Hutchinson’s been able to do in the last 10 games in the American Hockey League — 9-1 with a save percentage of .950,” Kypreos said on Hockey Night in Canada. “So it’s drawing interest, including from the Edmonton Oilers. We know that they need help with Cam Talbot out."

Hutchinson is a capable NHL goaltender on a team with no room for him. He is the typical kind of player that a GM will flip for assets, and considering Chiarelli's need, and proven activity in the trade market, there's a very strong chance that this transpires.
