As we reported earlier, Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland confirmed that veteran defenseman Brendan Smith is set to miss at least four weeks of game action. He will not require surgery, as per Helene St. James:

Rookie forward Tyler Bertuzzi was also expected to miss some time as his left leg was injured during last Saturday's matchup with the Montreal Canadiens, and the Red Wings have officially placed both Bertuzzi and Smith on the short-term, seven-day injured reserve. Bertuzzi was seen leaving the Joe Louis Arena on crutches and with a boot on his left foot.

As it stands, the specific nature of Bertuzzi's injury is still unclear, and we're working away at updating you as soon as we hear anything.

Stay tuned.

In other news, the Red Wings have proceeded to recall forward Tomas Jurco from the Grand Rapids Griffins after undergoing a two-game conditioning stint with the AHL affiliate.
