Report: Two players waive their no-trade clause for Vegas

Looks like these two NHL veterans are on their way to the Nevada desert.

Ever since February when he waived his no-trade clause for the purpose of being traded or exposed in the NHL Expansion Draft, the future of Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Marc Andre Fleury has been the subject of much speculation. Now, as the official creation of the Vegas Golden Knights draws nearer, it’s almost a foregone conclusion that he’ll join the expansion franchise.

One other veteran player, however, has also waived his no-trade clause and might be on the move the Vegas: Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom. In fact, Fleury and Enstrom were the only two NHLers to willingly waive their contract clauses for the purpose of the expansion draft.

It’s an interesting development given that teams could only protect a maximum of 11 players. But, by waiving their clauses, both Fleury and Enstrom provided their teams with the flexibility to protect younger, and frankly better, players on their roster.

Whether this means that Fleury and Enstrom end up in Vegas, who knows? Fleury certainly seems destined for the Nevada desert, but Enstrom’s future is still very much up in the air.
