Report: Update in the Franson negotiations
Chicago Tribune

According to a report from TSN analyst and NHL insider Bob McKenzie, the Chicago Blackhawks will finally put pen to paper on a contract for training camp invitee Cody Franson before the puck drops on the team’s 2017-18 regular season this Thursday.

No indication on the salary or term of the deal, but given that it has taken until the 11th hour for Franson to earn an NHL contract, it’s likely to be a one-year deal with a low cap hit. So, assuming this deal gets done, what do you think of Franson’s addition? The towering 6’5, 235 lb defenseman has a bomb of a point shot and could really help shore up a Hawks blue line that could be feeling the effects of Niklas Hjarlmarsson’s absence.

In 68 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season, Franson only managed three goals and 19 points. But his career high of 33 points in the 2013-14 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs hints at some more offensive upside.

What’s your call? Good move or bad move?
