Report: Veteran Expresses His Discontent

When the Toronto Maple Leafs avoided arbitration with one of their most promising young defensemen Frank Corrado last summer, the belief was that his one-year contract indicated that he would be a part of the team’s long-term plans moving forward.

 

The 23-year-old has not yet laced up his skates for the team through the 2016-2017 regular season, and is beginning to publicly vent his frustration concerning his role. 




The Toronto, Canada native spent three years with the Vancouver Canucks between 2012-2015, but did not play more than 15 games a season and posted two goals in 28 games over that three-year span. He was claimed off of waivers by the Maple Leafs in October of 2015.

 

Corrado appeared in 39 games for the Maple Leafs last season and posted one goal and five assists, though his minus-12 rating might be cause for concern. He was set to become a restricted free agent until the organization offered him a one-year contract to prove himself, though it’s going to be hard for him to do so if head coach Mike Babcock continues to scratch him.  

 

When asked about his intentions of dressing Corrado, Babcock mentioned that certain players have been a little “smoother” than the blue-liner, and that the team is 3-1 in their last four games:
