Report: Veteran head coach sounds off on controversial penalty!

It has been a rough start to the season for the relationship between NHL officials and Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville. The rules have been changed this year to assess a two-minute penalty for a failed offside challenge in an effort to cut down on lengthy reviews.

Coaches now need to be 100 percent sure a play was offside before challenging the play and well, Quenneville was adamant that Minnesota Wild's Jason Zucker was offside before he sent the puck to Chris Stewart for a go-ahead goal last night. But officials decided he was wrong...

After the game, the veteran coach did not hold back and sounded off on the referees' decision, as reported by the Chicago Sun Times

“He didn’t carry it and didn’t have possession, so I disagree with that ruling,” Quenneville said. “Plus it was offside. I mean, why didn’t he blow the whistle? Unless he knew that rule and thought he had possession? Or he thought he carried it or controlled it?”

“I wasn’t worried about that [penalty],” Quenneville said. “I still don’t think it should have been a goal.”

It is not the first time this week Quenneville has something to say about NHL violations and rulings on the ice. The season is just getting started and the Cup winning head coach is already fed up...
