When the Montreal Canadiens traded for veteran defenseman David Schlemko there were many who questioned the move, this despite the fact that the general manager Marc Bergevin only gave up a fifth round pick for him, and this may have been why,

Schlemko, who has never played a full season in the National Hockey League, re-injured his hand during training camp and has missed every game so far this season and despite making his return from that injury and playing one game with the Canadiens American Hockey League affiliate the Laval Rocket, he is now once again on the sideline.

It's unclear if he was rushed back bu the Habs or not, but what we do know is that Schlemko will now miss an additional three to four weeks as a result of surgery he needed to remove a bone fragment from his injured hand.

The Habs have since confirmed the news, indicating that Schlemko is still a long way from his Habs debut, assuming the 30-year-old veteran can ever stay healthy enough to make it.
