Report: Veteran's Injury Worse Than Anticipated
Today's Slapshot

While the Detroit Red Wings welcomed back long-serving defenseman Niklas Kronwall to their lineup at the beginning of the month, the 35-year-old has struggled to find his game. While a little bit of rust is ordinarily expected after an NHL player is sidelined for several months, it appears as though Kronwall will never be the same player he once was.

According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, Kronwall believes that he will never be pain-free for the remainder of his playing career and perhaps the rest of his life. As he had stated several times before, there is no surgery that is required although opting for an operation would be a dead-end road due to there being no real option.

While Kronwall is expected to miss tomorrow night’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning as we reported earlier today, he is often seen missing practice due to “maintenance” days. Being a healthy scratch tomorrow will enable him to rest properly, but it seems as though his skillset will only diminish from here on out and not solely due to his age.
