Report: Vigneault's fate to be decided Tuesday

There's “considerable chatter” that Vigneault may only have one game left!

It had been reported Sunday that Detroit Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill could very well be on the hot seat given the team's sluggish start to the season. The thought there from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, and echoed by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun was that his logical successor would be Dave Tippett, a former Jack Adams trophy winner.

Well, there's another coach clearly in hot water as well.

Alain Vigneault, head coach of the New York Rangers, hasn't been able to get his team out of a serious hole early in this season - the team is 3-7-2 and sits at the basement of the Metropolitan division.

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, there is "considerable chatter" that Vigneault's fate will be decided following Tuesday's match against the Vegas Golden Knights. After losing to the equally struggling Montreal Canadiens, the team has all but hit rock bottom and a major shakeup may be in order, and it could very well be Vigneault who takes the hit.

The team hired Lindy Ruff as an assistant coach this past summer and it's very easy to see how general manager Jeff Gorton could make the decision to fire Vigneault, seeing as a viable replacement stands right next to him night after night. Of course, Gorton might want to bring in a fresh face and keep Ruff in the assistant role. That would remain to be seen.
