Nashville Predators' former captain Mike Fisher officially announced his retirement on Wednesday, just months after falling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2017 Stanley Cup Final. Even though some may have believed he would be back in Smashville next year, the 38-year-old has decided to call it quits, which means the Preds will have to find a new captain for next season.

While the Tenessean's Adam Vingan says four players are great potential candidates to fill Fisher's shoes, he believes one of them has a clear advantage:

"[Roman] Josi may be the most qualified player to replace Fisher. The 27-year-old defenseman is part of the Predators’ leadership group and was a full-time alternate captain last season. With the loss of former Predators forward James Neal to the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in June, Josi is the team’s longest-tenured alternate captain. He has led the Predators in ice time per game in each of the past three seasons, which demonstrates their unwavering trust in him."

He also mentioned that Ryan Ellis, Ryan Johansen and... P.K. Subban would also be reasonable choices, but that Nashville should ultimately appoint Josi as captain.

The 27-year-old played 72 games with the Preds last season. He recorded 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points, and added 14 more in 22 playoff games. He was selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL draft.
