Report: Wild interview two candidates for GM position
Zuma Press

In case you missed the news earlier this week, the Minnesota Wild fired general manager Paul Fenton after just 14 months on the job.

Check it out:

Wild owner Craig Leipold met with the media yesterday to discuss Fenton’s firing and to address his plan for finding a replacement. Assistant GM Tom Kurvers will take over in the interim, but who will the team hire as their full-time GM? And when?

Just yesterday Wild insider Michael Russo has reported that former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall is expected to receive an interview with Leipold to discuss the position.

Now today, Russo is reporting that the Wild will interview former Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli

Check it out:

From Russo’s column:

A mere two days after firing Paul Fenton after one season as the team’s GM , sources tell The Athletic that owner Craig Leipold and president Matt Majka have already interviewed two prospective candidates — former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall and former Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli.
This is just the early stages, sources say, of what could be a meticulous process to find the next person to guide the Wild in the future, and it doesn’t mean that either candidate is necessarily a frontrunner.

Don’t be surprised if former San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi and former New York Islanders GM Garth Snow also receive an invitation to interview.
