Report: Wild’s Boudreau admits he’s “bored” and “frustrated”

After leading the Minnesota Wild to their best season in franchise history during his first campaign behind the bench, you’d think that head coach Bruce Boudreau would have some level of satisfaction. Nope. Not even close.

In  a sit down interview with Star Tribune writer Michael Russo, Boudreau admitted that he’s been bored since the team’s elimination to the St Louis Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. “I’ve been bored out of my mind. It seems we last played a year ago,” said Bourdreau to Russo. “It’s funny. I went to the office today and we’re all down there watching video because we’re all bored,” Boudreau said. “I’ve been watching these playoff games a little more intently for whatever reason. As each passing game goes, I get madder because I believe that our team — we didn’t do it, but I believe we were as good as any of the four teams that were in the final four.

“That frustrates me every night. We were capable of doing it, but we didn’t get the job done.”

He’s not wrong. The Wild did have the upper hand during the regular season on each of the playoffs’ final four teams, but in Bourdreau’s words “didn’t get the job done” against the Blues. So what’s the plan moving forward? How do they ensure they can get the job done next season?

“I think we’re good enough where we don’t have to change a lot. We were in the top 10 in almost every category in the league, and until March 1, we were in the top five in every category.” Again, he’s not wrong, but the notion of no-change may not go over well with long-time Wild fans who are dying for the team to finally break through and make some noise in the postseason.
