The Detroit Red Wings could have landed themselves a talented young defensema

n.

According to comments made by TSN insider Darren Dreger, the Red Wings were "keenly" interested in acquiring Winnipeg Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba, something that had been rumored ever since Trouba made his trade demands public this summer.

However it may be too quick to judge general manager Ken Holland for staying the course here, as the price that Winnipeg was demanding was not one many fans in Detroit would be willing to pay, especially not without at least some serious reservations.

During the radio interview Dreger stated the "only player I'm told Winnipeg had interest in was Dylan Larkin." Larkin has been one of the few bright spots for the Red Wings as of late and it would have been an extremely tough sell to the fan base if he had been shipped off to Winnipeg even despite the fact the Red Wings clearly need help on defense.
