The Montreal Canadiens may be dealing with an injury to an important piece of the puzzle in the organization.

Nikita Scherbak took a hard hit to the boards in the Canadiens' previous tilt against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. His legs bent awkwardly and it took him out for the rest of the first period.

He returned to the game in the second period but was clearly not at 100% - he was forced to leave the game.

He's meeting with team doctors later today to get a diagnosis on the injury - hopefully it isn't too serious.

Nonetheless, he will not be able to suit up when the Habs take on the New York Rangers.

Drafted 26th overall in 2014, Scherbak has a goal in 5 NHL games. He has the skill package to become an offensive driver in the NHL - he's already shown flashes of what he can do, and for a team lacking sorely in creativity, they have to hope the injury doesn't set him back.
