Report: Yzerman emerges as candidate for Flyers GM job
Zuma Press

Ever since the moment he announced his resignation as general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning, hockey fans across the NHL have been waiting for Steve Yzerman to announce his return to the Detroit Red Wings organization.

The Red Wings icon shocked the hockey world when he announced his resignation this past offseason and almost immediately there was speculation from fans and media that Yzerman was making a move back to Detroit. Yet, here we are one quarter of the way into the 2018-19 season and Yzerman remains an integral part of the Lightning organization, serving as the team’s senior advisor.

Yzerman’s contract expires this upcoming offseason, so technically the Red Wings could attempt to woo him back home in the summer, but not if the Philadelphia Flyers scoop him up first.

According to a report in The Detroit Free Press, Flyers CEO Dave Scott admitted to Philly.com that his team is interested in Yzerman, but that the Red Wings seem to have the inside track on him.

Check it out:

"I spent some time in Detroit, and I know Yzerman a little bit," Dave Scott, CEO of the Flyers' parent company, Comcast Spectacor, told Philly.com. "My sense is he's pretty committed to someday getting back to Detroit. I think his family is still there. He really put roots down there, and (Red Wings GM) Kenny Holland is getting to a point in his life he's probably going to do different things someday."

Come home, Stevie. Red Wings fans are DESPERATE for a return to glory.
