Retiring here a dream come true

With salary caps imposed on hockey clubs, retiring from one team where you’ve spent the entirety of your professional career isn’t always a possibility.

For Brad Marchand, it’s a different story. “That was always something I had expressed to them, and they told me I would have the opportunity to do it,” he said, expressing his desire to play for only the Boston Bruins.

Marchand said that “there’s nine years left, but hopefully I do get to that point.” He was talking about his new 8-year, 49-million-dollar contract extension, and the last year of his current one.

“But to retire here would be a dream come true. There are very few players that play their whole career with one team nowadays,” said Marchand.

Even rarer is having two players retired from same and only club they’ve played for. Both Marchand and Bergeron are expected to retire from the Bruins, but not before having long careers together.
