Roberto Luongo to replace Don Cherry?!

Many potential replacements have been mentioned ever since Don Cherry was fired by Sportsnet and Rogers for making offensive comments about Canadian immigrants.

Cherry was fired on Remembrance Day, which honors Canada’s veterans, after he said: “You people … you love our way of life, love our milk and honey. At least you could pay a couple of bucks for poppies or something like that. These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada.” said Grapes, who spent four decades in the NHL between his time as a player, coach and commentator.

Some fans have inquired if Brian Burke, already a member of the Sportsnet panel, would be a quick solution to take over Coach’s Corner on the air, but then, fans came up with the greatest replacement option possible: Roberto Luongo

Lou is usually quick to talk about the ongoing controversial topics on the hockey world but has yet to comment on the dismissal of Cherry. Could he be in negotiations for the part? Who knows?

Luongo is loved all across Canada, especially in Montreal (where he’s from) and Vancouver (where - well, you know: awesome Canucks goalie). He could become the best option for Rogers to make fans forget about the controversial decision to fire Cherry.

The former star netminder retired back in June after another season with the Florida Panthers.

The 40-year old goalie is third all-time in NHL history with 489 wins behind Patrick Roy (551) and Martin Brodeur (691).

Could he now get in line to break the records set by Cherry?
