I must admit I do love me some Robin Lehner.

Not only is the veteran goaltender a truly inspirational story when it comes to overcoming one's personal demons, but he has always been a man that feels free to speak his mind. Lehner is a rare breed in the modern world of professional sports and it is thanks to his brand of brutal honesty that we get amazing sound bites like the one that we got on Sunday after another outstanding performance from Lehner this season. The Blackhawks backup goaltender has been standing on his head after being a Vezina finalist and capturing the Bill Masterton Award as a member of the New York Islanders and when he was asked about his performance, in spite of the Blackhawks having a rather lackluster defense, Lehner told the members of the assembled media exactly how he felt about the situation.

"I feel good, I feel good. I mean people talk a lot about last year, you know, but I played for arguably the worst defensive team in the league for three years in Buffalo so it's nothing new. I put up good numbers there no matter what anyone says and again I am 4 years old, the read in my game is better, a lot of the work I did last year is sticking."

This is a scathing review of the Buffalo Sabres team that Lehner played for, as he said for 3 consecutive seasons, and truly speaks to just how Lehner felt about his time playing for what was consistently one of the worst teams in the entire National Hockey League. You would be hard pressed to argue with him in that regard as well because as he stated his numbers in Buffalo were pretty darn good, especially when you weigh the context of just how bad that team was while he was there.

I would also be remiss if I failed to mention that there appears to be somewhat of a shot at the current group of defensemen playing in front of him here, as his choice of words clearly imply that the Blackhawks' defense isn't exactly stellar either. Again Lehner's comments on regarding the Blackhawks defense that let him face 38 shots last night are fair, although I suspect the Blackhawks themselves would have likely prefered he not through his teammates under the bus.

Through 8 games this season Lehner has recorded a 2.22 goals against average and a .939 save percentage and once again looks like one of the NHL's most dominant goaltenders.
