In case you missed it this past weekend, Vegas Golden Knights players Robin Lehner and Ryan Reaves elected to "take a knee" along with Dallas Stars forwards Tyler Seguin and Jason Dickinson for the singing of the 'Star Spangled Banner' prior to the two teams' Round Robin Series game. The four NHLers were following the lead of Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba who took a knee the day prior in a form of silent protest against police brutality and racial injustice in the United States.

Check it out:

As you might expect this act on behalf of Lehner, Reaves, Seguin and Dickinson has divided hockey fans from across the NHL and, indeed, sporting fans from all over the United States. Some agree with the protest. Others are against it, but support the players' right to peaceful protest. Others though... well, they're just full of hate and want to watch the world burn evidently...

Check out this quote from Lehner taken from Swedish language publication Expressen published earlier today:

“It’s sad to see how things are right now and that there are quite threatening reactions on social media. But this is something I believe in, it is my reality and something I have gone through with my loved ones.
“Now the media is dragging politics into this, for me it’s just about everyone having the same right. I love this country, but it’s so wrong when people have to drag the military in this and that I’m against it. I spent three months with the military when I underwent rehabilitation a few years ago and I know how often they are left out (omitted?) and saw how they are treated when they return from serving in wars abroad. I was in contact with several of them before I did this knee bend before the match and they had no problems with the action.”

Seriously, people? You're threatening an NHL goaltender on Twitter because you don't agree with his politics? Get a life.

Methinks that Lehner isn't just getting this kind of heat due to kneeling. The fact that he also denounced his one-time support for U.S. President Donald Trump might have something to do with it, as well. Lehner famously sported a Trump sticker on his mask during the now President's 2016 campaign, something that he now calls "a mistake".
