The Montreal Canadiens thought they had found a diamond in the rough last season, and it looked like they were right.

24 year old forward Daniel Carr provided some much needed offense when he was inserted into the Canadiens line up last season, putting up 6 goals and 3 assists in the first 23 National Hockey League games of his career, and when put into context of the struggling Canadiens' offense last season, it was an even bigger deal for the team.

Unfortunately for Carr and the Canadiens his season was sidelined when he suffered a major knee injury, one that cost him 27 games in the season, only allowing him to come back for the final four, and relatively meaningless, games of the season. Carr believes that despite his limited showing, he now knows he is capable of competing at the NHL level.

“I learned that if given the chance, I can compete there. That was the biggest thing, knowing that and coming into the summer making sure to give myself the biggest chance to get back there this year. There’s nothing quite like skating onto the ice at the Bell Centre, so you want to give yourself the best chance to get back to it,” said Carr via the Canadiens official website.

The summer may feel long for hockey fans, but for Carr it's been extended by several months due to injury, and he's desperate to get back to work to prove he can earn a full-time roster spot at the NHL level.

“It’s been too long a summer, and I think at this point I’m just feeling the excitement of getting closer to getting back at it and playing hockey again,” concluded Carr. “Now, everything starts new, and you’ve got to earn your spot. That’s my goal. I think things are going in the right direction for me. It’s just about coming to camp ready to go.”
