Roussel tosses Tinordi’s stick into the crowd, fan catches it and then chugs his beer

In case you missed it last night, the Vancouver Canucks stepped back in time with their vintage black/yellow/orange “Flying Skate” uniforms as they hosted the Nashville Predators for “Legends Night”. With the jersey retirements for franchise legends Daniel and Henrik Sedin scheduled for later this week, the Canucks welcomed back four other legends who have had their numbers retired: Stan Smyl, Trevor Linden, Pavel Bure and Markus Naslund.

In fact, in a pregame ceremony the team unveiled new banners for each player that better represents the players’ history with the team. Formerly, the Canucks banners were all done in the team’s white/blue/green palette. Now, however, the banners reflect the jerseys and colours that those players actually wore for the team.

Very cool and a classy move by the Canucks organization.

On the ice, the Canucks didn’t disappoint. They absolutely railroaded the Predators, chasing goaltender Pekka Rinne in the process. Rookie Quinn Hughes had a three point night and joined Hall of Famer Ray Bourque as the only two NHL rookie defenseman in history to record four three-assist games in a season. Not bad. Not bad at all.

In the end the Canucks earned a 6-2 victory, but not before something truly bizarre transpired.

While getting tangled up with Preds blueliner Jared Tinordi, Canucks forward Antoine Roussel ends up tossing Tinordi’s stick up over the glass and into the crowd. Crazy right? It gets crazier…

Not only does a fan catch Tinordi’s stick, but he then proceeds to down his beer like he’s dying of thirst, much to the delight of the crowd around him.

What and absolute hero. Someone buy this man another beer NOW!
