Ruhwedel shares a special moment with his 89 year old grandmother prior to puck drop

In case you missed it Saturday evening, the San Jose Sharks absolutely WAXED the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 5-0. The Penguins are now riding a six game losing streak and dropped three consecutive games to bottom feeders like the Sharks, Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks on their recent road trip.

Ugly, ugly stuff. 

So… let’s turn the page, shall we? How about some wholesome content to switch things up for Pens fans?

Check out this awesome clip of Chad Ruhwedel sharing a special moment with his 89 year old grandmother Mary Bovee who got to witness her grandson playing in the NHL for the first time.

How sweet is that?

“She hadn’t seen me play since I was a kid,” Ruhwedel told the Penguins website. “Not as a pro, so this is pretty cool.”

Bovee regularly watches the Penguins from her home in Sacramento, California but she hasn’t been able to make it out to a game in person until this past weekend.

“That was really special,” Ruhwedel said. “It hasn’t worked out in recent years with scheduling and everything like that. For her to get out here and see me play is pretty special.”

Bovee was one of 22 family members in attendance to watch Ruhwedel take on the Sharks. Ruhwedel is originally from San Diego, but much of his family lives in Northern California, and they were loud and proud supporting him.

“It was a decent-sized cheering section today,” Ruhwedel said. “That’s pretty crazy.”

“From the time he was a little, bitty boy, he was going to play hockey,” Bovee told the Penguins website. “I am extremely proud of Chad. He’s such a tremendous young man.”
