During this summer's NHL entry draft, Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall laughed off Claude Giroux trade rumors, and since, chatter has been quieter. The Flyers' captain has five years left on his deal at an $8.275 million cap but, according to the Hockey Writers, Giroux is only one average season away from being traded.

Giroux was once linked to the Montreal Canadiens when it was first heard that he was being shopped. Let's not forget that the star forward has a no-movement clause in his deal.

However, with the experiment of putting him on the wing, Giroux could face an uphill battle to prove to his GM that he is worth keeping in the lineup. He did have a great start however on Wednesday as he scored the very first goal of the 2017-18 NHL season.

If he bounces back this season, Giroux could shut down the trade rumors that have been circulating about him.

You think he can do it?
