One National Hockey League franchise may be about to get an unexpected weapon for next season.

While it was initially believed that 20-year-old forward Kirill Kaprizov had signed an extension in the Kontinental Hockey League, according to a report from Russian hockey analyst Aivis Kalnins that is not the case.

Original reports had Kaprizov signing a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow of the KHL, but Kalnins is reporting that Minnesota is still very much an option for Kaprizov once his contract expires.

It's unclear when his contract comes to an end now with all the confusion around the deal that isn't a deal with CSKA Moscow, however there's no doubt that the Wild are hoping he comes to North America as soon as possible.

Kaprizov is coming off a big season that saw him record 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points in 49 KHL games this past season.
