There have been some big contracts handed out this summer and there may soon be another one on the way.

The Canucks have been in negotiations with restricted free agent center Bo Horvat for some time now, and insiders appear to be getting a better grasp of where those negotiations will end up.

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province usually has his ear to the ground when it comes to everything Canucks, and he appears to be predicting a contract that will be in the neighborhood of six years, possibly even more.

From Kuzma:

It’s why a six-year extension has been the buzz since comparable contracts that consider age and production started showing up last summer. And it’s why when the Edmonton Oilers locked up their future in Connor McDavid last week, it wasn’t a stretch to suggest the Canucks could do the same by signing Horvat to an eight-year commitment.

As for the financials on a deal for Horvant? Kuzma points to the recent contract signed by Montreal Canadiens winger Jonathan Drouin, a big six-year deal worth $33 million. In fact Kuzma believes Horvat's camp could ask for even more value than Drouin received, primarily due to the fact that he plays center, a high-value position in the National Hockey League.
