One of the most under the radar talents in the National Hockey League may be headed for the trade market.

During Monday night's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Las Vegas Golden Knights, the broadcast crew touched on the possibility that Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault could soon be on the trading block.

Marchessault is coming off an incredible season where he put up 30 goals and 21 assists for 50 points in only 75 games with the Florida Panthers and he's once again off to a hot start this season with 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in 11 games with the Golden Knights.

When you add to that the fact that his contract this season only counts for $750,000 against the salary cap this season, Marchessault might have the very best deal in the entire NHL, at least as far as teams are concerned.

The broadcast crew had a chance to speak with Marchessault and he himself admitted that the concern with playing for an expansion franchise is the fact that he genuinely has no idea whether or not the team intends to keep him past this year. This would appear to indicate that there have been no contract talks between the two sides as of yet, although admittedly that is merely speculation.

Should the Golden Knights really be looking towards their long-term future however, you have to imagine that a trading chip as valuable as Marchessault could net them a massive return from a contending team against the cap.

The 26-year-old undrafted center may be the hottest commodity in the NHL right now.
