Rumor: Are Habs and Kings talking blockbuster deal?
KeyStone Press

A few big names have surfaced on the trading block as of late - Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk, and two defensemen from the Los Angeles KingsJake Muzzin and Alec Martinez.

The Canadiens (1-6-1) are desperate for offense, and despite their league worst offense, they actually have the talent up front to sacrifice a potential consistent 30 goal scorer in Galchenyuk. The issue lies in their defense. They simply cannot control the play, skate well, and make plays to help drive play in the offensive zone.

The problem lies primarily on the left side. Beyond Victor Mete, none of the team's left defensemen can skate. In comes either Muzzin or Martinez.

The two players, according to multiple insiders, including TSN's Bob McKenzie and Pierre LeBrun, are available on the trading market. The Kings are seeking to move one of them for offensive help, especially in the wake of Jeff Carter's long term injury.

Habs' general manager Marc Bergevin had been spotted at a Kings/Islanders game recently, and while most people believed he was there to see the New York Islanders, it's entirely possible he was also scouting the Kings. Not to mention his team played L.A. this past week and so he had the chance to take in another game.

Alex Galchenyuk could be exactly the player the Kings are looking for. Muzzin or Martinez would fill a dire need for Montreal.

Talk about a win-win deal.
