Rumor: Bennett on his way out of Calgary?

“There were teams this summer that were VERY interested in him, and would like to get him.”

The status of young forward Sam Bennett was a hot topic today on Sportsnet's Hockey Central at Noon. The Calgary Flames forward hasn't performed up to expectations yet, regressing year after year statistically speaking.

He had 36 points in his rookie season, 26 points in his sophomore year, and has been held pointless through 13 games in 2017-18.

Doug MacLean makes a strong case for Bennett benefiting from a change of scenery - going on to say that he spoke to teams over the summer about their interest in the former 4th overall pick - and that "there were teams that were very interested in him, and would like to get him."

Evidently, his value is low right now - and it would probably be unwise of general manager Brad Treliving to trade Bennett away at this point in time.

That being said, he could very well fit in on another team that's willing to take a gamble on the player.

What do you think: Should the Flames move on from Bennett?
