Rumor: Big changes coming in San Jose?
Keystone Press

The San Jose Sharks have stumbled out of the gate this season going 10-8-0 in their first 18 games. If you’re a Sharks fan, this has to be incredibly concerning. Facing a pivotal campaign, the Sharks can’t afford to miss the playoffs this season. If things continue the way they are, don’t be surprised if GM Doug Wilson makes some huge changes.

The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz reports that they team is seeking to upgrade its forward group, but that some more heavy lifting may be required:

It’s true that a lot of teams are looking for help up front, including the Sharks. But you have to wonder… if they continue to stagnate or even slide in the standings, could the Sharks become sellers? The loss of Patrick Marleau has hit harder than anyone could have imagined and Jumbo Joe Thornton is a shadow of his former self. Would Wilson be smart to start the re-build early? Surely he could get a hefty return for players like Thornton and captain Joe Pavelski, but what about Brent Burns and Marc-Edouard Vlasic? The blue liners each just inked big money, longterm deals with the Sharks… will they even be around to see them through?

It’s a pivotal time in San Jose. These next 20 or so games will go a long way into determining the future of the franchise.
