Rumor: Big deal may finally get done very soon.

We have several pieces of the same puzzle, and while they don't all fit together just yet they certainly seem to all be pointing in the same direction.

In a recent article for the Edmonton Journal David Staples revealed comments made by Paul Almeida and Dustin Nielson and those comments point to the Edmonton Oilers adding defenseman Kris Russel, but not on a massive deal like was predicted at the start of free agency but rather to a short term deal.

“Have it from a very reliable source that Oilers are talking with UFA Defenceman Kris Russell on a short term deal,” said Almeida.

“Oilers reached out to Kris Russell a couple of days ago", said Nielson. "Expect the two sides to start talking numbers/term etc as early as tomorrow…Should note that this doesn’t mean a deal gets done for sure…talks happening though. #shortterm.”

We may even have the financial details of the deal, albeit from an entirely different source, a source that did not mention Edmonton being connected to the offer.

This morning on TSN's 1260 Bob McKenzie revealed that he expects Russel to sign a short term deal, 1-year to be specific, worth somewhere between $4-5 million dollars. This of course certainly seems to line up with the comments from Nielson and Almedia.

While Russel will likely be happy to get a deal done after being rumored in so many this summer, this is certainly not what he was aiming for by waiting out this long.
