Rumor: Bruins have made their “last offer” to Torey Krug.

Bruins interested in keeping Krug at a big discount.

There has been big time trade speculation surrounding the future of Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug and most of that comes as the result of a report from Barstool Sports' Rear Admiral over the weekend.

For those of you who missed our report on that yesterday, effectively it was intimated that Krug would be traded at some point during the day on Monday by the Boston Bruins. More specifically Rear Admiral reported that his sources believed it would only be Krug's rights that would be traded away, ruling out the possibility of a sign and trade deal for the Bruins. He also listed 4 teams that were in the running, with those being the Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings, and the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Given the degree of confidence with which he made those claims I suspect that Barstool's sources on this are pretty solid, but it sounds like the Bruins might still be open to bringing Krug back into their lineup, assuming he is willing to take a massive pay cut compared to what he could get on the open market. A report today from TSN National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli has indicated that the Bruins have made at least one final offer to Krug, although it does not seem to offer him market value.

From Seravalli:

My belief is last offer from [the Bruins] to Krug's camp was 6 years x $6.5 million.

Now the way this is worded makes it seems like this is the final offer the Bruins will make, although I do think it is possible that Seravalli just meant the "latest" offer from the Bruins instead of the last and simply chose his words poorly.

Krug is expected to command more than $6.5 million in average annual value on the open market, the lowest estimates I have seen all have him commanding upwards of $7 million per season, and he isn't even being offered the maximum possible term by the Bruins. The reality is that with his skillset and with the number of teams reportedly interested in him, this offer is unlikely to compete with some of the others he will receive.

The question now is will Krug be willing to take a hometown discount in the final hour.
